Starbucks Hits China

World Map of all countries with one or more Starbucks branches

Starbucks CEO, Howard Schultz has announced that the companies business in China could one day outgrow that of the United States.

The American coffee chain will open its first international Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room in 2017 in Shanghai. Starbucks announced earlier this week its 30,000sq feet roastery will be double the size of the original that opened in Seattle in December 2014.
The TNC has grown significantly over the last three decades with an average of two stores opening everyday for the last 27 years.

Shultz remains positive about the growth of the chain after telling 'CNBC':
"I wouldn't be surprised if one day we have more stores in China than we do in the US".

By looking at the figures it is clear why Schultz is so optimistic. Starbucks currently has more than 2,000 stores across 100 cities in China with over 300 outlets in Shanghai alone. The firm have recently set a target of 3,400 stores in China by 2019- a target that seems surprisingly possible. The opening of the Shanghai roastery was announced shortly after they published the plans for a 'megastore' in New York in 2018.
Starbucks have built their store using Chinese culture and arts to enable it to fit in with its surroundings. This has helped the western chain to become excepted by the Chinese.
